This poem is about overcoming hunger. It uses a lot
of imagery. It is that one poem which has been written about my own life.
For many years, I worked at the lowest jobs. And always I dreamt that someday
I would have my chance on the World scene. That day came. Poetry has been
very exciting for me lately.
Once A Racehorse
Once a racehorse
born in time,
to fight against
the mocking hordes.
Cursed to plow
a farmer's field,
he rose to meet
the Race of Lords.
Beside the
multitudes he stood,
stumbling, frightened
at the first.
Determined ever
in his quest,
his legs leaped forth
with one great burst.
A thousand knights
stood on their toes,
to watch him duel
the pious kings.
And then they wrapped
him in the joy,
that victory
over hunger brings.
And what would you do if you were stuck in morning traffic behind this
person…
Myrtle's Mistake
Her old car needed
some gasoline.
But instead
she put in vasoline.
And now she goes
one hundred hours a mile.
It creeps alone
like a dying turtle.
And folks say: 'well,
we'll say THIS Myrtle…
'You've certainly managed
to make the whole town smile!'
