                          TECHNIQUE FOR SPEECH-MAKING

There follows, in brief, a method of communicating with a 
large audience. You talk, they listen. You create a bridge 
between yourself and them. To put yourself "across" and 
make your message stick, here are some particullarly 
pertinent suggestions to follow:----- 

1. pick out particular faces that are receptive to your 
message 

Look right into their eyes…… not over them! watch 
For reactions. Note whether those faces are mobile 
With your ideas. Note whether they are alive with the 
Emotional flows of your words. 

2. Lean toward these people as you address them 

put your message on a person-to-person basis even as your 
body appears to go out them. 

3. maintain changes of pace 

Use the diminuendo and crescendo of words to make music in 
men's souls. Voice control is vital, 
So speed it up, slow it down. Dramatize your point 
effectively.

4. Gesticulate without being a "hambone" 

make your gestures free, easy and natural. Smile, frown, 
but never dead-pan an audience. Keep your face alive. Keep 
your body alive. Make every part of you talk! 

5. be forceful, direct, and get through to them!

6. use subject matter worth listening to 

give them something that answers their problems.

They can use. Be enthusiastic about it! Show fire!
7. use body control 

make your body portray sincerity and dynamics. Be poised, 
erect, moving. Keep balanced with feet slightly apart. 
Bring your sternum up toward your chin. Pinch your buttocks 
in and glow! 

8. watch closely for symptoms of audience boredom .
actions, as well as feces, are a barometer of audience 
attentiveness. When the faces ar no longer concentrared on 
ou, when they become blank, disinterested, wooden, 
inattentive, when people slump down in their chairs, 
whisper, scan programs or newspapers or fiddle with their 
wearing apparel, hair, or accessories, you know that their 
interest in you has gone home.

9. know your audience 
know the wants and desires of people. Feed these wants. 
Make your attitude and theirs the same.
10. talk their language 

picturize your points but them in language they know. Make 
them "see"it!

11. give them a message they canuse 

12. be animate and forceful all the way punch your points 
out precisely one by one!
