Keeping a pet can be a real thrilling experience. people down the years have kept all kinds of pets - dogs, cats, parrots, rabbits, squirrels, fish, pigs, beetles, frogs and a lot other birds, animals and insects. and believe me, no one has complained of a boring life after getting a pet.
Besides the fun side of having a pet there is the serious side too. you must be able to spend time with your pet and keep it well groomed and healthy. grooming you pet and taking it out for a walk or giving it a special treat is all part of the fun of having a pet.
Let's move on to check out the most fun pets around and what's so great about them. after reading about them, i'm sure you won't be able to resist getting one. have fun!
Dogs
A dog is a man's best friend. probably the most common pet around and maybe even the best. dogs have been major heroes of adventure books - the famous five's timmy, the secret seven's scamper, nancy drew's togo etc. they have been on tv too - lassie for example. even comic characters are incomplete without their dogs. astrix and dogmatix, dennis the menace and ruff and tintin and milo.
Dogs are big heroes in real life also. police use sniffer dogs to help them solve cases and stop crime. blind people keep dogs because they can move around a lot more with a dog to guide them.
But above all, it's a great feeling to wake up in the morning and find your dog happy to see you, with its tail wagging to and fro, waiting for you to take it for a walk in the park or give it a pat.
Cats
Cats are very easy to keep, clean, neat and handy to have around. (because they keep the mice away)
What's more, they come with nine lives as a bonus. (ha ha) cats loved to be picked up and cuddled gently. you'll even get a purr as a reward for the cuddle.
Cats have been around as pets for a long long time. egyptian palaces were incomplete without a cat or two roaming the rooms. even cleopatra had a cat for a pet. sadly though, when their masters died, the cats were also killed and kept beside them in the pyramids.
Cats are very mysterious and amazing creatures. from the way they walk - slowly carefully and gracefully to the way they go about their work, without making the slightest noise. they can also be quite amusing. watching a kitten scamper about with a ball can be very funny; you don't tire of watching them that easily.
Fish
They are certainly ideal to have if you live in an apartment because they are very easy to keep and great fun to watch. if you plan to keep them as pets don't keep them in a sad looking goldfish bowl that would be more like a prison to them. instead, make them an aquarium that matches their natural environment, with aquatic plants, pebbles and fresh water. you could start by rearing a simple species or even two or three species for variety. always start with the common tropical fish like guppies, mollies etc. and after you learn how to maintain the aquarium you could move on to the more exotic species.
Watching the fish grow and multiply can be a very rewarding and learning experience. of you avoid disturbing the water often your fish will grow quicker and stay healthier.
Parrots
Parrots make great talkative pets. don't keep a parrot if you have a cat in the house for the obvious reason. you could keep the parrot in a cage or let it loose whichever way it suits you.
Spend time and talk a lot to it if you want it to talk. keep repeating simple phrases like: good morning, hello, or whatever you may wish. don't teach it any embarrassing phrases because it might blurt it out in front of a guest. you also have to be patient with it especially if it takes a long time to learn how to talk; or if it won't talk when you want to amuse a friend. some parrots get shy in front of visitors and it might take a little while before they get chattering. but once they start, there won't be anything stopping them.
